Before you begin
You do not need to make a whole new routine to take a small pause.
This three-minute practice is a simple way to arrive where you already are: with your feet on the floor, your attention close by, and nothing else required.
Move through it at your own pace. If a step does not suit the moment, simply skip it.
The practice
Move through it slowly.
- Minute One
Arrive
Set down what you can.
Let your hands rest somewhere comfortable. Notice the surface beneath you: the floor, a chair, the edge of a bed, or the ground outside.
Without changing anything, name three details around you. Perhaps light on a wall, a familiar sound, or the temperature of the air.
There is nowhere else you need to be for this minute.
- Minute Two
Make a Little Room
Bring your attention to one unhurried breath.
You might notice the breath arriving, then leaving. There is no right way to do this; let it be as it is.
If it feels useful, soften one place that has been working hard today: your jaw, hands, shoulders, or the space around your eyes.
What would make this next small part of my day feel a little more spacious?
Let a simple answer be enough. A glass of water. One open window. A slower next step. A few minutes without adding anything.
- Minute Three
Carry One Gentle Intention
Choose one small thing to carry forward.
Complete this sentence in your own words:
For the next little while, I can make room for __________.
It may be quiet, patience, a pause, one task at a time, or simply the moment in front of you.
Take one more look around. Notice that you have returned to the same room, but perhaps with a little more attention.
Come back whenever you need a soft place to begin.
Continue your practice
A little more room to linger.
If this small return felt welcome, the Practice Library holds longer, equally gentle companions for ordinary moments.
